Arsenal chief Vinai Venkatesham lauds Joe Montemurro, impressing Gabriel Jesus

Technical Director on an Arsenal in pre-season training

Academy Manager Matthew Joseph inspires coaching staff

Arsenal's chief executive Vinai Venkatesham has praised Joe Montemurro, the club's new head of women's football, in glowing terms. Venkatesham said in a press conference on Tuesday that he has been "incredibly impressed" by Montemurro, who won three straight A-League Premiership titles with Melbourne City.

A clutch of stars are impressing during pre-season training, including new signing Gabriel Jesus. The Brazilian striker, who joined from Manchester City in a deal worth up to £45 million, has been a handful for opposition defenders in training. He scored a fine goal in the first half of Arsenal's 5-3 friendly win over Ipswich Town on Saturday, and he has also been involved in several other goalscoring opportunities during pre-season. That will be welcome news for Arsenal, who struggled for goalscoring firepower last term.

In other Arsenal news, Mikel Arteta has confirmed that Matthew Joseph is the man to lead the coaching team at the club's academy. Joseph has been a coach at Arsenal since 2018, and he has overseen the development of several players who have gone on to make their first-team debuts, including Bukayo Saka, Emile Smith Rowe, and Yunus Musah. He replaces Per Mertesacker, moving up to a new role as Arsenal's academy manager.
