Chelsea drop points to resilient Bournemouth

Caicedo lob and Sterling stunner not enough to earn Blues victory

Thomas Tuchel's side held to 1-1 draw on the South Coast

Chelsea's hopes of moving into the top four suffered a blow as they were held to a 1-1 draw by a resilient Bournemouth side at the Vitality Stadium on Tuesday night.

The Blues took the lead in stunning fashion through Moises Caicedo's audacious lob from the halfway line, but the Cherries hit back in the second half through Raheem Sterling's deflected effort.

Chelsea had the better of the chances in the first half, with Kai Havertz and Mason Mount both going close. However, it was Caicedo who produced the moment of magic, spotting Bournemouth goalkeeper Mark Travers off his line and chipping the ball over him from 50 yards out.

Bournemouth came out with more purpose after the break and were rewarded for their efforts when Sterling's shot took a deflection off Kalidou Koulibaly and looped over Kepa Arrizabalaga.

The Blues pushed for a winner in the closing stages, but they were unable to find a way through a well-organised Bournemouth defence.

The draw leaves Chelsea in fifth place in the Premier League table, four points behind Tottenham Hotspur in fourth.
