The Incident
On May 25, 2020, George Floyd, a 46-year-old black man, died after being arrested by police outside a shop in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Floyd was accused of using a counterfeit $20 bill, and when police attempted to arrest him, he resisted. Three officers held Floyd down on the ground, with one officer, Derek Chauvin, kneeling on Floyd's neck for nearly nine minutes. Floyd repeatedly said he could not breathe, but Chauvin did not remove his knee. Floyd died at the scene.
The Aftermath
